However, as we will still be in Phase 1 of our re-opening plan, we are now planning to begin our first week of Summer All Sports Camp @ Junction Place Sportsplex on Monday, June 8. We have added another week (labeled as "Week 9" to avoid confusion of other weeks) which will run Monday, July 27- Friday, July 31. Summer All Sports Camp @ Junction Place Sportsplex ensures a worn-out, happy camper, who comes home more self-confident each day. Focusing on the fundamentals involved in movement, rules and game strategy of multiple sports, sportsmanship as well as the responsibilities required with being on a team, is at the heart of all of our teachable moments. Summer 2020 All Sports Camp @ Junction Place Sportsplex have three camp divisions:
Little Sluggers (5-6 yrs)
Emerging Stars (7-9 yrs)
Hall of Famers (10-12 yrs)
The intention of this breakdown format is to ensure an environment that is safe for all campers and delivers the most appropriate level of instruction and gameplay. We understand that age is not always the best metric to use when identifying the best environment for each child so we do allow ourselves (with parental input and consent) to place a camper in the best group even if they don't fit the listed age range.
The "Little Sluggers" (5-6 yrs) will see an emphasis on personal skill development and refining of gross and motor skills..Campers in this age group will see a balance in process based learning and exploratory learning via movement. Our aim is to allow campers to explore and learn through their own experiences while at the same time preparing them for the group dynamics of team sports. Campers will participate in baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer specific instruction and training on a daily basis. Gameplay, both traditional games and "goofy games", will also be a part of the daily schedule to make sure that we are cultivating young athletes who enjoy going to camp and learning new techniques and gameplay!
The "Emerging Stars" division (7-9 yrs) will see an emphasis on personal skill development. Each day will see campers participate in speed and agility component that translated to enhanced functional movement and body control. Campers will participate in baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer specific instruction and training on a daily basis. Gameplay, both traditional games and "goofy games", will also be a part of the daily schedule to make sure that we are cultivating young athletes who enjoy going to camp and learning new techniques and gameplay!
The "Hall of Famers" (10-12 yrs) will see an emphasis on personal skill development and leadership training. Each day will see campers participate in speed and agility component that translated to enhanced functional movement and body control. Campers in this age group will learn how to lead by taking charge of some collaborative projects (equipment storage tasks, lunch systems, etc). Campers will participate in baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer specific instruction and training on a daily basis. Gameplay, both traditional games and "goofy games", will also be a part of the daily schedule to make sure that we are cultivating young athletes who enjoy going to camp and learning new techniques and gameplay!
Before founding Junction Place Sports, Team Junction Place Sports and Junction Place Sportsplex Josh, better yet, "Coach Josh", had engrained himself as a fixture in the New Orleans Youth Sports scene. As the Sports Deparmtent Director for the New Orleans Jewish Community Centers and the C.O.O. of Big Easy Sportsplex, Josh used his decade of experience and passion to create a company that wouldn't have any walls to box in his love for coaching, creating and inspiring!
Coach Brad is the youth baseball expert! How he is able to manage, engage, entertain, explain and enjoy working with large groups of young ballplayers is a gift worthy of a medal, or an award or something. What's crazy is his idea of an award is to get more opportunities to lead youth baseball programs and personal lessons in the future! "Got keep at it" is one of his favorite quotes, and one which he lives by!
Coach Ross "Hollywood" Brtiz brings an dynamic set of sports and life skill to the Junction Place Sports community! As a competitive athlete, Coach Ross excelled in both Soccer and Track and Field, and he uses these experiences to fine tune techniques. Off the field, Coach Ross has expereinced great success in the performing arts and film and television as an actor/director. This diversity allows him to connect with children on multiple levels!
Coach Toni is our softball and dance moves expert! She spent her life in athletics. At John Curtis, she excelled in softball, volleyball and cheerleading. Coach Toni has since taken her passion for playing and is now giving back with her passion to educate! In addition to being a Head Coach on the JPS Staff, Coach Toni is finishing up her degree in Special Education from the University of New Orleans!
Coach Corey holds the distiction as being voted "Favorite Camp Coach" for the Summer 2019 All Sports Camp @ Big Easy Sportsplex! This camper voted award shows his ability to connect with children of all ages and the impact those connections have. What this award fails to show is how vital Coach Corey's "let's get it done" attitude serves the rest of the JPS staff behind the scenes!
Coach Kelly, our Camp Soccer Specialist, has been a staple of Summer and Holiday All Sports Camps both at Big Easy Sportsplex and Louisiana Baseball and Softball Academy. She has been working with us for over three years! Starting her employement with us as a student at St. Mary's Dominican, Coach Kelly is now well on her way to eaning her Bachelors in Kinesiology at Louisiana State University!

Q: What gear should my child bring to camp? A: Athletic clothes and tennis shoes are the only materials required. Baseball gear (glove, bat, helmet) are not required but encouraged to bring daily unless otherwise stated. Camp will supply all gear, however, baseball specific work is best to do with the same gear you will use in games/practices outside of camp. Q: Do you have to purchase lunch from Junction Place Sportpslex or can you bring your own food? A: Lunches from home can be brought daily (no dietary restricts at this time but as allergies can factor, parents will be made aware if any restricts are needed). BUILDING BLOCKS- OUR RECIPE FOR SUCCESS!
Our approach to early childhood and elementary age sports education is simple: provide a foundation based on the basic elements of the subject matter and don't put a cap on the results! Leading young people doesn't require personal accolades or success of the instructor in the given subject matter. Young people have a zest for knowledge and experience, what "you did" probably occurred before they were born so it's really insignificant to their perspective. What does matter in the mind of a young person is can you relate? Can you inspire? Can you communicate on a level that THEY can understand? At Junction Place Sports, our staff is provided a curriculum, better yet a language, that ensures just that! While communication with parents/guardians is of the utmost importance to our organizational principals, our aim is to have YOUR child be able to explain to you what they learned and love about Basketball Basics and Simply Soccer! We provide clear and pointed adult based information- the "who/what/where/when's". What we don't do is force a narrative of what your child did or how they felt about it in a "copy and paste" email/text format that has become common place today. That's not the job of an instructor of young people. We aim to have your child fill in the blanks to whatever questions you may have! Our instruction is repetitive, like, really repetitive, as in, we say the same phrases over and over and over and over again- something we are sure you can understand. We don't back away from that approach. It works. Here is what you can expect when you provide your child the experience of Junction Place Sports' Basketball Basic or Simply Soccer Programs: Knowledge: Our coaches must receive 200 hours of practical training with JPS Founder/CEO "Coach" Josh Tolbert before being able to leading Junction Place Sports programs. Passion: Our coaches all come with a passion for sports (check out "Our Team" story) and for cultivating a similar love of sport with the children we serve. Patience An intricate part of leading children through any discipline is patience. They will make mistakes. Directions will need to be repeated. Basic concepts will need to be reinforced. These ideals are a point of emphasis in our "Coaches Playbook" that guides all Junction Place Sports coaches. Knowing everything there is to know about a particular discipline is great! Forgetting or not recognizing the wonderful patience and persistence required to master any skill and failing to implement that while leading others is simply unacceptable.
